With the Galactic civil war escalating from local skirmishes to an all out war of attrition in several sectors and the Alliance to Restore the Republic facing a critical shortage of supplies after its disasterous routs at Dera IV and Hoth, Alliance space mining expeditions are frantically seeking to extend their reach, going as far as making incursions into Imperial controlled systems in their desperate need for resources. Gambling that a small contingent of snub fighters and freighters will be adequate to protect its lightly armed mining vessels, the Alliance has already infiltrated several ore rich asteroid fields in multiple systems, many of which are currently being exploited by Imperial alligned subcontractors. In what is likely a measure of their desperation, they have moved into this territory despite the fairly transparent transfer of several Imperial squadrons into the region. While the area of space in question is expansive, a conflict seems eminent. As always...we will be watching.

[end report. next query?]

OOC:

Well, this event was incredibly fun back when we did it a few times as part of the Ahazi "Continuity Event" Series in 2006-7. I also know some variations of it have been done on Starsider through the years. For those new to this particular event, or those who have forgotten the rules of the event, here they are:

The Y-8 mining challenge:

Purpose: Each team, one imp and one rebel obviously will each have one Y-8 mining ship equipped with at least one mining laser. (It'll need it for the victory, trust me on this). At the onset of the event, the leader of each team will be given a resource they must mine in space. Each team will be told a different resource, each in different sectors, and each resource will have (at least) two sectors to choose from for mining it so you can hop back and forth if you feel your location has been compromised. ALL systems in game are open for this event, including Ord Mantel, Kessel and Deep Space!

The Y-8 is the only ship allowed to do any mining. Anything else is legal. You can have all 4 turrets on the Y-8 setup with combat guns if you wish and let the pilot do the mining. That is solely up to the teams. You can choose to either escort the Y-8, leave some behind to protect it and go searching for the other team, or go all out searching for the other team. You can also utilize decoy Y-8s if you like, though only the designated ship's ore will count in the final tally.

The event will last for a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes. There will be unlimited returns. Once the event starts, if you die, you can go to any factional Space Station available to go Overt once more. There are no restrictions. Load ganking is discouraged, but with the full free roam feature of this event, and the inability to predict where anyone forces will load in, it cannot be guaranteed not to happen.

The go command will be given by myself whether the Rebels or the Imps are ready or not. As it is a search and destroy more or less. No ships are allowed to launch into space until that Go command is given as well. Granted, it can't be completely controlled, but we are all mature for the most part and I have faith that it will be adhered to by as many that it can be.

Again, neither team will know what they will be mining until the night of the event. 30 minutes prior when teams start forming up is when the leader of each team will be notified what they will be mining and what two sectors the ore can be found in.

I will be participating in the event, and would like to be a part of the "hunt" aspect of the event, so I am willing to take volunteers for an impartial "judge" who will inform both sides of the ore they are to mine and tally the official results at the end of the event. If no one wishes to take on this role and the other side accepts it, I will step down from my role as an Imperial leader and act as the non combatant judge.

Details:

Event Date: Sat 3/28/09

Briefing time: 5:30pm CDT / 6:30PM EDT / 3:30PM PDT /11:39am GMT
Event Time: 6pm CST / 7PM EDT / 4PM PDT /12:00am GMT

Rebel briefing at the RA Briefing hall north of Rori Rebel outpost (unless specified otherwise)
Imp briefing at the Corellian Sector Fleet Starfighter Command HQ in New Doros, Talus

The location each team needs to mine at will be given at the time of the briefings, so the leader of each team will need to contact the judge/moderator at that time to get that information.
